Zimbabawe, Harare: Minibus Transport

Fund year:2024

My story

Kenny was previously involved in the transport business, learned about Microlend through his daughter, who attends Children of Faith Secondary School. Motivated by the opportunity, Kenny applied for a Microlend loan to purchase a minibus, crucial for transporting distance students to school.
Kenny successfully secured a loan from Microlend to finance the minibus. To complete the purchase, he contributed an additional $1,261 of his own funds, bringing the total investment to acquire the minibus.
Challenges Faced:
1. Setup and Delays: The setup of the minibus service faced delays due to logistical challenges and changes in local currency (ZIG), which affected pricing and budgeting.
2. Economic Impact: The local community has been experiencing economic hardship, including food insecurity, which has impacted household incomes. As a result, some parents are struggling to afford the transport fees, affecting the overall sustainability of the service.

How Microlend helped

Despite these challenges, Kenny's minibus service has begun operating, providing essential transport for students who live at a distance from the school. The service is addressing a critical need within the community by ensuring that students can attend school regularly.
Kenny 's minibus transport service is making a positive difference by improving access to education for distance students. With continued support and strategic adjustments, the service aims to overcome current challenges and continue serving the community effectively.
Kenny is exploring ways to adapt to the economic conditions and enhance the service's sustainability. This includes adjusting pricing strategies to be more affordable for parents while seeking additional support or subsidies to mitigate the impact of economic hardships on families.
